Build an outbound ideal customer profile from a serviceable problem
An outbound ICP should explain who can benefit from the offer and whom you can serve. Company size and industry help organize the audience, but they do not establish a need by themselves.

Who this helps: Business owners and operators planning audience, offer, ownership and review decisions.
Define the decision
A useful profile connects a business task to observable conditions and delivery capability. It also states what would rule a company out. Without those boundaries, almost any prospect can be described as a fit after a researcher finds one vaguely relevant fact.
Work through the procedure
- Name the problem and the deliverable your business can provide.
- List observable fit signals and distinguish them from hypotheses requiring a conversation.
- Add delivery constraints such as geography, supported systems or project size.
- Test the profile against a few clear fits, clear non-fits and ambiguous cases before building a large list.
Worked example
The following is a synthetic example for this procedure, not a customer result or performance benchmark.
Offer: reconcile a sales reporting definition
Fit signal: a public role description mentions cross-team reporting ownership
Hypothesis: teams may need a shared metric contract
Constraint: service supports the buyer's data environment only after assessment
Exclusion: request is solely for graphic dashboard redesign
Unknown: whether the definition problem exists.Read the result
The profile is useful because it can reject a plausible but unsuitable project. The public signal earns a relevant question; it does not prove pain or purchase intent. Record ambiguous cases as unknown rather than stretching the definition to increase the audience count.
Check before moving on
- Make every inclusion rule explainable to another researcher.
- Keep missing data separate from a confirmed mismatch.
- Revise the profile from reviewed conversations, preserving the previous version.
Limits and next action
An ICP is a working commercial model, not a verified description of every company in a segment. This worksheet is not an automated Zintara scoring feature. Human review remains necessary when evidence is incomplete or delivery fit is uncertain.
