Cold email bounce rate calculator

Calculate an observed bounce percentage for one defined message cohort and observation cutoff.

Prepare your inputs

Choose the cohort before entering numbers. Use messages, not unique people, for both the denominator and matching bounce outcomes. Keep submissions with uncertain acceptance separate until their state is understood.

Runs in this browser. Inputs are not sent by this tool or saved in browser storage. Start with the fictional example; use redacted text for reviews.

How it works

The calculation is matching bounced messages divided by messages in the chosen cohort, multiplied by 100. The calculator rejects more outcomes than cohort messages and refuses a zero denominator.

Worked example

Five matching bounces in a cohort of 200 messages produce 2.50%. If the five include failures from another campaign or reporting period, the arithmetic remains simple but the result is not a valid cohort rate.

Limits and interpretation

The result does not measure inbox placement or establish a universally acceptable threshold. Later bounces can change the observation, so retain the cutoff with the report.
