Lead status versus campaign status: choose the right scope
Choose the scope matching the reason. A campaign pause, one enrollment pause and a contact-level suppression solve different problems.
Reviewed · Examples are illustrative
Who this helps: Operators preparing contact data, exclusions and campaign audiences.
Define the decision
A prospect asking to stop should not be handled like a temporary scheduling issue. A broken campaign link should not require labeling every lead uninterested. The state you change should preserve the meaning of the event and affect the intended future work, while leaving unrelated history understandable.
Work through the procedure
- Describe the event plainly before selecting a control: technical fault, individual response, completed sequence or broader exclusion.
- Identify whether it concerns the campaign, one participation or future outreach to the contact.
- Review other campaigns involving the person. A narrow enrollment change may leave other work eligible.
- After applying the supported action, inspect the resulting state and record the reason for the next operator.
Worked example
The following is a synthetic example for this procedure, not a customer result or performance benchmark.
Broken link in remaining messages → campaign review
One recipient requests information → conversation handoff
Recipient requests no outreach → suppression review
Sequence ends without reply → completion, not evidence of positive or negative intentRead the result
Silence is not a reviewed negative response. Likewise, stopping one sequence may not satisfy a broader exclusion decision. Scope affects both workflow and reporting: mislabeling a technical fault as negative intent distorts campaign analysis, while treating an opt-out as a temporary pause risks inappropriate future work.
Check before moving on
- Use the exact available state labels in support reports.
- Verify pending work when a recipient appears in multiple initiatives.
- Keep response classification separate from technical failure reasons.
Limits and next action
This is a decision guide, not an exhaustive state-machine specification. Zintara checks campaign, enrollment and relevant lead states in sending. If the interface lacks enough evidence, investigate before changing multiple statuses as a workaround or assuming that one badge describes every possible future action.
